App Dice & Spinners ! !

Let your students rolle the dice or spin a spinner to choose which apps they'll use to complete their creative and thought-provoking projects.

Make 2 dice...one for "creation" apps and another for "publishing" apps.  Use apps the students are already familiar with, and they'll be able to manage and direct their own learning -- with partners, in learning teams, or individually.

APP SPINNERS

Classtools.net - virtual spinner

Create this fully-customizable virtual spinner at classtools.net.

See the "Random Name Picker" spinner on this website.  Create as many sections as you want by typing in the names of apps.  Click on the spinner to spin it.  The app section it lands on will pop up.  You can click to remove this section so it won't come up again in future spins or leave it on the spinner.

For app smashing, use 2 iPads.  On the first iPad, create a spinner with creation apps.  On the 2nd iPad, create a spinner with publishing apps.  (Or use any 2 categories that fit your groups/goals.)

Have students spin each spinner to determine which 2 apps they'll smash together to create & share their projects.

You can save your spinners.  You will get a unique address which you can use to return to your spinners and use them again or edit them.

Make your own spinner -- hand-drawn

Draw as few (or as many) sections on your spinner as you want.

Put the app icons on with velcro so they're easily changed to fit different student groups or different projects.

The blue pencil spinner came from Dollar Tree ($1.00!) and attaches with a magnet. They, also, have a red arrow spinner and a yellow pencil spinner.

Instead of using paper or poster board to draw the spinner, you could just quickly draw the spinner on your magnetic white board, too, since the spinner works either horizontally or vertically.  In this case, write the name of the apps in the sections with a dry erase marker or use a sticky-back magnet or tape to attach the app icons.
